Janel Young / JY Originals

Janel "JY Originals" Young is an artist on a mission to inspire through creativity and play. As a Pittsburgh native, she grew up with a love for all things adventurous: reading, traveling, sports, and finding creativity in every crevice of life. She sees opportunities for artistic expression and connection in places others consider ordinary, particularly in public art, where Young has been awarded for the quality of her work, diligence to her process, and application of her talents combining public art and communication. Elements of geometric shapes and patterns can be found throughout Janel's work in impactful and intentional compositions. Using colors, shapes, and space as symbolism are common themes for large-scale mural projects. Young’s community-centered approach to her work is led by the idea of creating from a place of curiosity and joy – which she sees as a rebellious act. Her work continues to expand and evolve through use of new techniques, media, and technology.
